In So Many Words

A creative response to Covid 19 lockdowns in Ballarat, Country Victoria, Australia

Captain Moonlite Rides Again

Our ghosts are with us everywhere we go, our ancestors and the stories that are our making. In this queer history we are bound, although our stories and outcomes may be vastly different. We honour our predecessors as vital to our freedoms. I step into the outdoors to recall the Moonlite part of me - and to recall my own history and longings, all held in my body and in the places I inhabit. I let them breathe and speak silently through my movement.

Captain Moonlite was a gay bushranger in Central Victoria in the 1870s. This work was created for CAFS Ballarat in support of the LGBTIQ community in the region and their right to be safely OUT. It was part of projection onto the CAFS building in February 2021.

Beauty In Decay

When faced with confinement and conditions that change your work, there are new questions that accompany new approaches. I am confined to a new set of rules, a new landscape. What is my body ready to say when I have not been here before? Is anything certain - besides decline and decay? Searching for patterns and perspective in this new landscape has meant wading through layers and layers of knowing and looking at truths that I might rather avoid, but here I am - it’s the layers within me that I am unfolding.

ALS Showreel 2020-21

Alison’s choreography work merged with her photographic sensibilities in 2020, transforming into filmic work due to the insistence of Covid 19 restrictions and lockdowns in Victoria.

In the absence of other dancers, the lens squared on herself and her environment. The three works depicted here represent a portion of the projects undertaken from November 2020 to February 2021.

ALS Showreel 2013 - 15

From exhibitions, cultural portraits, collaboration with a poet and cancer centre employees and full length shows for an art festival, this clip is an example of the choreographic versatility that Alison displays.

Flash-mobs: choreography

It all begins with an idea to celebrate someone. Their favourite song with their favourite people, especially the ones they would never expect to learn a dance for them! It takes some time and effort to learn, under the experienced teaching of Alison and her choreography catered especially for this special occasion and for folk who may never have danced before. It is worth every moment of secrecy!
